"Dancing with the Leaders of the Inland Empire" is an innovative Arts project that engages the community with civic leaders, as well as addresses social justice through performance. The culminating project includes a multi-media dance production with screened interviews of our local elected leaders based on their traditional and contemporary dance practices as a springboard for dance choreographies. The program is directed and co-choreographed by Makeda Kumasi, Artistic Director of the Umoja Ensemble of the Inland Empire/ UC Riverside Continuing Lecture in the Department of Dance, Joy Wilson of Caribbean Joy Dance Company, and Monique Williams-Randolph of Unity Dance Studios.

Highlighted leaders include Victorville City Council Mayor Pro Tem Elizabeth Becerra, San Bernardino City Unified School District Board Vice President Danny Tillman, San Bernardino County Board of Education Board Member Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers, San Bernardino City Unified School District Board Member Mikki Cichocki, Riverside City Unified School District Board of Education President Angelo Farooq, and California State Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh.
