Dance Upon a Time

HOURSBristol, England
Multiple dates
Overview

Kick off your day with a morning rave! Any genre, any move = dancing people are never wrong.

'Dance Upon a Time' is a new movement class concept that takes place on a weekly basis at various indoor locations across Bristol. This session will be held at the HOURS, an inspiring gallery and event space tucked away in a central location (BS1), just across the Children's Hospital on Upper Maudlin Street.
Upcoming dates: 26th March (Thursday): same venue = 10 Colston Yard, BS1 5BD; 30th March (Monday): St George Community Centre; 17th April (Friday): Eastville Park

What to expect:
Part 1: Guided warm-up:
>> Remove toxins from your lymphatic system & carbon-dixiode from your lungs (i.e. Jumping & Fire breath)
>> Improve your Concentration & Attention span (Isometric workout i.e. holding & balancing postures & box breathing)
>> Improve your digestion & Increase lung capacity (Ancient daoist workout)
>> Strengthening exercises (leg, arms, core = your choice: use your body weight or the surrounding i.e. wall/chair or a resistance band = you can take it easy or go hard, your choice, up to 10 minutes)
>> Synchronize your brain (Cross-lateral exercises & Brain gym)
>> Unblock your heart space (mix of sequences from different traditions that open up the heart space so that you can experience your day from a state of aliveness.)
>> Kung-fu (kidding)

Part 2: "Dance Upon a Time":
>> playful group exercises devised by Dori Jo (i.e. "Match the beat", "Score the speaker" , "Prop culture" , "Recognise in reverse")
>> Improve coordination & elevate mood, Overcome anxiety & depression, Make being alive feel great again (Dancing to your favourite tune).
>> Share or swap your dance tune with other (b)ravers (optional)

The class is particularly beneficial for individuals with ADHD and for people whose nervous system is stuck in Freeze mode as a result of C-PTSD a.k.a. a shit childhood.
The class is suitable for introverts also as it doesn't require participants to "perform"; it provides opportunities to follow your own instinct rather than follow along instructions; small talks are strictly prohibited; no photos or videos are taken.

See you there (b)ravers!

Dori Jo (@dori___jo) is a trained mime performer and a martial art enthusiast. Drawing on her experience from facilitating "Slow Cycling Bike Rides" across Bristol and hosting "Hush City - What do you do when you do you?", an offline co-relaxing & co-unproductive space in the Arts Mansion at Ashton Court, she is now facilitating morning raves with guided warm-ups across Bristol on a weekly basis.

The goal of the class is to flood your system with Serotonin, make you chuckle, swell your heart... giving you a head start for the day.

Are you a morning bird? Nor am I. I hope to meet fellow morning "grumps".

Please bring headphones with you and a music playing device + prepare a playlist of 3 to 6 songs/tracks that make you move!

Any genre, any move = dancing people are never wrong.

Address:
10 Colston yard, BS1 5BD
Accessed from Colston Street, through an archway between Bike Workshop and Blaze.
