About this event

Welcome to Nevada City's First DANCE BECAUSE Festival! Celebrating dance, human-ness & connection through performances and classes.

Dance is the vital expression of the soul through the body. Dance allows us to express what cannot be said in words, and to activate what is alive inside of us and make it real in the physical world. We invite you to join us this weekend - try something new, dive deep, explore your passion, light up your soul!

Classes offered in modern dance technique, hip-hop, bellydance, butoh, clowning, contact improvisation, shakti temple dance, rebel ballet, and broadway jazz.

Choose your own adventure at this festival - sign up for classes individually, buy a 5-class pass, or buy the whole festival pass - $160 gets you into every class offered over all four days! Performances will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM - stay for Vogue workshop after the show on Friday and dance party on Saturday.

Choreographers at the evening performances include Andrea Amdall, Rebecca Bone, Lovie Bucknell, Alexandria Diaz De Fato, Jacarandà, Azriel LaMarca, Maya Culbertson-Lane (director of Fou Fou Ha!), Juliet Lin, Nevada County Men’s Charity Choir, Sister Magic, Mary McDonnell, Delana Motter, Dawn Hammonds Ryley, Raina Satori, Trina Spiller, and Sedona Swan Soulfire.

All classes and performances will take place at the Nevada City Oddfellows Hall. Entrance is at 212 Spring Street. There are stairs to get up to the hall. A lift is available. Friday and Saturday morning classes will also take place at Fusion Fitness, 578 Searls Avenue in Nevada City.

Work exchange/volunteer positions available! Please email azriel.lamarca@gmail.com to sign up and get free classes!

“We believe that we are never more truly and profoundly human than when we dance.” - José Limón
