About to earn a bachelor's degree Dan Taylor was floundering with no sense of purpose. Then President Kennedy created the Peace Corps and he knew immediately what he was going to do. He applied to the Peace Corps and was accepted in February 1962 for a program in Colombia.

The Peace Corps is now sixty-two years old, and over 240,000 volunteers have served in sixty countries.

This memoir is a brutally honest look at Dan's experience in those early Peace Corps days. It is a detailed personal account of a formative time in the history of the Peace Corps.
Long since retired, Dan Taylor spent three years in the Marine Corps, three years in the Peace Corps, a year sailing most of the way around the world as a passenger/crew on a barquentine, too many years in college and 27 years as a local government planner.

He and his wife Michelle live in Bellingham Cohousing, an intentional community, in Bellingham, WA, where he remains an active member.
