Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark that preserves the Miami estate of agricultural industrialist James Deering to engage our community and its visitors in learning through the arts, history and the environment. Built between 1914 and 1922, Vizcaya is one of the most intact remaining examples from this era in United States history, when the nation’s most successful entrepreneurs built estates inspired by the stately homes of Europe. Vizcaya features a Main House filled with a decorative art collection, 10 acres of formal gardens, a rockland hammock (native forest), mangrove shore, and a historic village that is being restored to tell Vizcaya’s full story and provide additional spaces for programs and community outreach, including those on agriculture. Vizcaya has been a community hub since it opened to the public in 1953; it currently welcomes about 300,000 visitors annually.Located on Biscayne Bay at 3251 South Miami Avenue, Vizcaya is open Wednesday through Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed Tuesdays, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Studio Vizcaya: Summer Art Sessions for Grownups

Annually, Vizcaya commissions an artist to envision and guides the creation of a community-made art project through a series of workshops. The final work(s) get debuted at a culminating event for 1,000 people in Vizcaya’s gardens.

Cyanotypes are a UV reactive dyeing process that creates beautiful Prussian blueprints. Create original collage art with this technique using harvested florals and foliage from South Florida! We will be crafting our Cyanotypes on thick paper which can be framed and hung as original art as well as on fabric squares to use as patches or to be hung on rods as fiber art!During the workshop our Sawgrass Swap Shop will be open to all so make sure to bring items from home to swap and “shop”. The Sawgrass Swap Shop is a community-centered free boutique consisting of gently used clothing, accessories, books, art supplies, small home goods, and plants during the workshop.Before you leave, get your photo taken with your new Cyanotype art to be included in our Vizcaya Community Family Album.CONFIRM YOUR SPOT | Simply registering for this workshop on Eventbrite DOES NOT confirm your spot. A﻿BOUT THE ARTIST: Pangea Kali Virga

Pangea Kali Virga crafts experiential dreamy fantastical worlds using fiber and community as her medium. Social responsibility is pivotal to her art, as she attempts to communicate urgent, difficult messages in beautiful and fun ways through narrative layered fiber art works, dramatic experiential art and performance, free and public sustainable art and skills workshops, and other collaborative projects with public and private community and arts institutions. Pangea has dedicated herself to helping transform the art and fashion industry to be a more sustainable and equitable one, creating art and wearables out of upcycled materials using zero waste practices, supporting her belief in the power of clothing as storyteller, cultural marker, and political catalyst. Outside of her core practice, Kali Virga is a sustainability advocate and lecturer, curator, educator and mentor to many emerging student artists of all ages.
