About this event

We are excited to announce that the 2024 Cymdeithas Madog live in-person summer course Cwrs y Pedwar Llyn / The Four Lake Course, will be held at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin from 21 – 28 July!

We have a great Cwrs planned! Our tutors this year are: Christine McSorley, lefel 1; Tim Doughty, lefel 2; Robert Jones, lefel 3; Owen Saer, lefel 4; Mared Lewis, lefel 5; and Llinos Griffin, lefel 6. Most of these are regular tutors at Cwrs Cymraeg, but we are delighted to welcome Mared Lewis, an author who has published novels for Welsh language learners, for the first time this year. Biographies are available for all our tutors on the CM home page under “learn more about our summer 2024 course.”

When registering, please select the level you would like to join.

The Wednesday excursion will go as a group to Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Wisconsin home and studio, where board member Robert Humphries has served as a docent. Robert has kindly volunteered to lead us on a side visit to the Unity Chapel which Wright designed and to which he belonged. If you'd like to join, please do so while registering for the course (the option will be available during registration).

There will be pub nights, the famous quiz led by the indomitable Robert Jones, Welsh scrabble, Welsh folk dancing, and extra workshops by the tutors on Welsh hymnody, writing in Welsh, and other topics of interest. Our Noson Lawen and Eisteddfod will be highlights of the week! We hope to see you there!

The cost for the week is $1300.00 for all expenses – room, board, tuition - regardless of single or double room occupancy. The rooms are set up as suites with a central bathroom. The excursion, as usual, is a separate optional event at $80.00, which covers bus transportation to and from Taliesin.

Please subscribe to the CM mailing list for updates.

Cwrs Madog T-shirts and gifts for 2024 will be available. For now, you can buy a T-shirt to commemorate this year's summer course during your registration.

* Eisteddfod : Our summer course will be holding an Eisteddfod. If you're unfamiliar with an eisteddfod, click here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisteddfod. Just as the National Eisteddfod of Wales awards a chair to the winning bard each year, so does Cymdeithas Madog. Each Cwrs Cymraeg Welsh language week, Cymdeithas Madog holds a Welsh language literary composition competition among the students. The winner is awarded the Cymdeithas Madog chair. Prizes are also awarded for beginner and intermediate entries. The competition is open for anyone attending the course and will be adjudicated by our course tutors. Information for the Eisteddfod topic will be released shortly.
