<h1>What does this infamously cursed box hold within? There's only one way to find out. Are you brave enough? Join us this Halloween season for an intimate (and COVID-safe) evening of paranormal mysteries.</h1>

<h3>Cursed is a COVID-safe, immersive theater production. You’ll be one of just 11 participants helping the <a href="https://cursedatl.com/the-institute/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Institute of Atypical &amp; Peculiar Sciences</a> with the allegedly haunted Daymare Box. You will have conversations with performers, explore the collection of cursed objects, make choices that steer the narrative, and take actions that have consequences.</h3><h3>From the moment you enter The Basement, an East Atlanta venue reportedly haunted by shadow people, you will be part of the story. Explore the box, explore yourself, leave reality behind for one night. Enjoy Halloween 2020.</h3>

<h3><strong>Is Cursed scary?</strong></h3><p>Short answer: Yes. It is an immersive horror experience designed to make you uncomfortable. Will you lose sleep? Will you have nightmares? Will you be visited in the night by demons that have followed you home? Tough to say. What we can say for sure is that you’ll have a lot of fun. Be brave. You’ve got this. </p><p></p><h3><strong>Is Cursed COVID-safe?</strong></h3><p>This event is as safe as we can possibly make it, given that it does involve being outside your home. Cursed was specifically created to provide a safer alternative to crowded Halloween events. It’s probably safer than the grocery store. We all deserve to feel safe while we enjoy a little Halloween creepiness, especially given the year we’ve had.</p><p>We’re taking the following precautions. If you have questions or suggestions, please get in touch with us. Anyone refusing to abide by these safety measures will be asked to leave with no refund.</p><ul><li>Extremely limited capacity of 11 people per event </li><li>Required face masks (over mouth AND nose)</li><li>Social distancing with seating placed 6 feet or more apart</li><li>Contactless check-in and bar purchases</li><li>Hand sanitation stations throughout the venue</li><li>Thorough cleaning and disinfecting of seating, bar, and other areas between each performance</li><li>Contactless temperature checks upon entry</li></ul><p></p><h3><strong>Is there an age limit?</strong></h3><p>This event is 21+ due to the nature of the performance as well as the venue (it’s a bar). </p><h3></h3><h3><strong>Will there be adult refreshments available to help calm the nerves?</strong></h3><p>Yes, there is a full bar. There will be opportunities before, during intermission, and after the show to grab a drink . </p><p></p><h3><strong>Is Cursed wheelchair accessible?</strong></h3><p>Yes. Please advise us when you purchase your ticket so we can accommodate you. </p><p></p><h3><strong>Does Cursed use any special effects I should know about?</strong></h3><p>The event does involve strobe lights and occasional light haze.</p><p></p><h3><strong>Is this a haunted house?</strong></h3><p>It is not. Nor is it an escape room or traditional play. Think of it more like a choose-your-own-adventure book come to life. It’s interactive, multi-sensory, and immersive. You’ll have conversations with performers, explore the collection of cursed objects, make choices that steer the narrative, and take actions that have consequences.</p><p></p><h3><strong>How long does Cursed take?</strong></h3><p>Cursed is a full evening of paranormal mystery that will keep you entertained for 2 1/2 hours, including an intermission, during which you can purchase a beverage from our friendly-but-terrified bartender and peruse the exhibit of cursed objects. </p><p></p><h3><strong>What should I wear?</strong></h3><p>A face mask. Other than that… whatever makes you happy. Dress up for an evening out or show up in your quarantine sweatpants. You’ll have a good time either way.</p><p></p><h3><strong>Who is doing this? And why?</strong></h3><p>This experience was created by NonsenseATL. In the Before Times(tm), NonsenseATL spent 13 years throwing raucous, crowded dance parties. Sometimes there were haunted houses built inside of them. Other times, there were pools full of packing noodles, Wheel of Consequences games, indoor snow, cat behavior experts, drag performances, improv experiences, or bouncy castles where we played “Sandstorm” on repeat for hours.</p><p>Clearly, these things are not an option right now. But we missed bringing people joy and entertainment and surprises. And we are obsessed with Halloween, horror, and immersive theater, so we created Cursed as a safe way for people to celebrate our favorite month.</p><p>With massive help from some extremely talented friends and artists, we were able to make this project happen. We love them dearly.</p><h3></h3><h3><strong>Where is Cursed?</strong></h3><p>Cursed is located in The Basement in East Atlanta, 1245 Glenwood Avenue, Atlanta, 30316. If you see the old Graveyard Tavern, just go around back for parking and entry.</p><p>Incidentally, the venue itself is allegedly haunted by shadow people who have been reportedly witnessed after hours by many staff members and DJs.</p>

The only known handbill that remains for this 1912 event. Noted spiritualist W.T. Stead brought the Daymare Box aboard the ill-fated ship as a curious showpiece for first-class passengers. It survived the sinking of the ship, but tragically, its guardian did not.
There are no records indicating how the box found its way back to land, but by 1912, it had found a new owner. Since then, it has had many homes—and has left a trail of death and destruction in its wake. The Institute acquired the box for the purposes of this study in August 2020.
