1145 Air Base Blvd Montgomery, AL 36108Description
Often times new trending drug use is not identified until there is an increase in emergency room visits from overdoses, severe side effects, or even death as a result of the drug use. Re-emerging drugs such as Heroin have ignited caution and a renewed focus due to its increased potency. Heroin is now the number two drug epidemic in the state of Alabama. This epidemic can be attributed to the low cost, ease of acessability and high potency of the drug. With the increased death rates due to heroin overdoses here in Alabama, we have to reposition our focus and efforts to prevent these overdoses and deaths by knowing what is currently trending in drug use.
This presentation will allow its participants to explore the current trends in drug use, the population and age group at highest risk for consuming drugs and how families in Alabama have been impacted by the epidemic. Upon completion participants will be able to:
- Identify local and nationally trending drug use
- Understand the socio-economic impact of drug use
- Explore how drug use impacts families
- Explore how current legislative decisions have influenced or encouraged current drug trends
