Cúpla Snáithe Heritage Week Workshop

Cúpla Snáithe Heritage Week Workshop

Overview

Discover the power of 5%! Blend history with craft in this hands-on workshop using native Irish fibres for decorative stitching.

Our textile heritage is at risk. Once a thriving industry protected by ancient Brehon laws, the Irish native fibre supply chain has dwindled due to historic oppression like the Wool Act and the modern rise of synthetics. Today, we risk losing a vital piece of our cultural identity. Cúpla Snáithe is a community-based movement changing this narrative. We invite Irish designers, makers, artists, and brands to bridge the missing links in our local supply chain. By embracing "fibremixing"—incorporating just 5% native Irish fibre into decorative stitches, mending, or statement details—we can bypass cost and texture barriers to build a vibrant circular economy. Hosted as part of National Heritage Week under the vital theme of Heritage at Risk, this workshop is your introduction to reviving a culturally significant craft.
