Roots Rising's mission is to empower youth and build community through food and farming. Our vision is to lift up teens as community changemakers and to strengthen the local food system through the transformational power of meaningful work. We have two main initiatives- our Pittsfield Farmers Market and our Youth Crew program.We founded the Pittsfield Farmers Marketin 2013 with the belief that everyone in our community should have access to fresh, healthy food. We are a year-round, producer-only, teen-run market. Live music, chef demos, workshops and children's activities have helped make the market a true community hub.Our Youth Crews hire Pittsfield teens to work on farms, in food pantries and at our farmers market. Werun three seasonal Farm Crews a year and a year-round Market Crew. These Crews are both employment and youth development programs. In addition to their hours working in the farm fields, in the food pantry, and at the farmers market, youth also participate in educational workshops, culinary and financial literacy lessons, and feedback circles.Working for a Roots RisingCrew is not just a job. It’s an opportunity for teens to engage in meaningful work—work that needs to be done and that contributes to a larger social good. Roots Rising believes that meaningful work is transformational. It leaves youth feeling purposeful, capable, and connected.

The search for the BEST cupcake is on at the Pittsfield Farmers Market this season! Are you up for the challenge?WHEN: Two cupcake throwdowns will be held at the Pittsfield Farmers Market this year: July 8 and October 14 from 11AM-12PM.Community members can purchase a &quot;Judge&#x27;s Badge&quot; ticket in advance. Ten bakers will compete (or throwdown!) and YOU will taste, vote and declare a winner! Your $30 ticket gets you 10 mini cupcakes total, and the chance to crown our Throwdown winner. Plus your ticket supports Roots Rising and the Pittsfield Farmers Market.
