Did you know that people of color are 50% more likely to drop out of therapy after only one session, compared to 20% of non-BIPOC peers? The 130m people of color in the US are extremely underserved by our existing system due to structural obstacles such as affordability, language barriers, immigration and acculturation are not treated in standard care plans. These challenges are compounded for minority entrepreneurs and, financially, this results in over 115 billion dollars in inflated annual healthcare costs.

Join us for a workshop to discuss the advantages and practices of culturally-responsive mental healthcare for minority founders with the goal of destigmatizing the topic of mental health for underrepresented entrepreneurs. The event will be led by Anise Health, a digital behavioral health tech platform which provides culturally-responsive care for people of color, with a current focus on the Asian community. This session will review the latest research and trends in BIPOC mental health, describe the ways in which culturally-responsive care differs from standard mental health treatment, offer tactical tips to address cultural stressors, and share openly about the founding team's journey to raising with VCs during a difficult macroeconomic environment.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Sandra Kim is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), an educator, a pastor, and a fitness coach. She incorporates multi-cultural, sensitive and mindfulness-based approaches building from her experience as a second generation Korean American who has lived in Asia, Europe and Africa. She incorporates various modalities in her practice including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy and biblio-therapy.

It fosters continued connection between alumni, current students, and the Harvard community as a whole.

The Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab is a curated community, providing eligible Harvard alumni, faculty, and students leading high-potential early-stage life sciences startups with a fully equipped wet lab, collaborative co-working space, business-building programming, and access to the entire Harvard Innovation Labs ecosystem.
