Date: June 20, 2024

Time: 7-8:15PM EST

Speaker: Dawn Mastoridis, Director, Queens Community House

Hosted by: Dr. Scott Mesh, Director, Young Child Learning

Format: Online Webinar

Webinar Description:

Parents play a key role in initiating and generating behavior change in their children. Parents have the potential to inspire their children directly (by applying reinforcers and other behavior modification strategies) and indirectly (by providing a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment). Providers of early intervention or special education services can promote more successful outcomes by utilizing effective rapport building and engagement skills. This webinar will address therapeutic techniques to create positive relationships with parents. Practical resources and strategies will be provided on how to build an effective partnership with families, cultivate collaboration, mediate conflict, increase acceptance, and diffuse denial.

Objectives:

The participants will be able to…

1. Identify key components of parent rapport building, reflective listening, constructive conflict resolution, and strength-based communication.

2. Implement techniques that show mutual respect, proactive planning, empathy, transparency, boundaries, and cultural sensitivity with parents.

3. Explain how Cognitive Behavior, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Pairing Techniques can help promote productive parent engagement.
