Join us for the launch of a year-long commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice

For ten years the CSSJ has been a venue for serious discussion around the legacies of racial slavery in the world. It has conducted this discussion through panels, catalogs, exhibitions, high school projects, conferences, and collaboration with academic institutions and museums. Last year the nation and the world were rocked by mass mobilization and protests around Black Lives Matter. Despite this, the structural legacies of racial slavery continue to haunt many societies.To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the CSSJ, we are planning a series of programs, including performances, lectures, and a retrospective exhibition. This program in December will open this year-long series of conversations.Limited in-person tickets are available. The event will include a coffee break and reception.This hybrid event will also be livestreamed. Livestream registrants will receive a link to view the event closer to the date.Schedule:2pm - Opening Remarks2:30pm - Poetry reading by Desiree C. Bailey followed by conversation between Desiree C. Bailey and Kevin Quashie3:45pm - Coffee Break4pm - Keynote address by Marcus Rediker, "The Maritime Frontier of Freedom: Escaping Slavery by Sea in Antebellum America" with Q&A5:30 - Reception
