WHO WE ARE

CRUX Climbing is dedicated to expanding access to the sport of rock climbing and outdoor recreation for LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual) communities in the NY-metropolitan area.

LEARN TRAD ANCHOR BASICS

Thinking about learning to trad climb? It's essential to know how to build a bomber trad anchor, so this class is a great place to start! This one day course will cover the basics of trad gear placement, and how to create an anchor on trad gear. The class is limited to 8 participants, and there will be 2 instructors.

This course is being offered through the EMS Climbing School in Gardiner, NY. The price includes instruction, and use of EMS technical gear.

SUGGESTED PREREQUISITES

  • This class is designed for people who are already familiar and comfortable with building SERENE climbing anchors for top rope or sport lead.
  • It is recommended that climbers learn to sport lead, or lead indoors before learning to lead trad, but it is not required.

YOU PROVIDE

The class fee includes equipment, and a day pass climbing permit at the Mohonk Preserve. In addition to this, you are also responsible for:

  • the Eventbrite processing fee
  • transportation to/from EMS Climbing School in Gardiner, NY - a rideshare sheet will be available to facilitate carpooling from NYC or Albany
  • transportation between EMS Climbing School and the Mohonk Preserve for you and the guide
  • appropriate clothing for the day, rain or shine
  • water
  • lunch and snacks
  • tip for course instructors (not required, but encouraged)

REFUNDS

CRUX would be stuck making up the difference if we had fewer than 8 participants. For this reason, there are NO REFUNDS unless the class is cancelled. If you can no longer make it, we can contact folks on the waitlist to try to help you find someone to take your spot, but you will not receive a refund until your spot is taken by someone else.

If either EMS or CRUX decide to cancel the class, you will receive a full refund.
