About this event

Our Story

A group of residents in northeast Denver saw the issue of poverty in their own neighborhoods and felt that what was lacking was a comprehensive, holistic solution to helping adults get out of poverty. Twenty-seven percent of our neighbors were living in poverty, and generational cycles seemed overwhelming. It was then that we stopped asking the question, “How do we help someone in poverty?” and started asking, “How do we get someone out of poverty?” We planted a church, partnered with a local philanthropist, and started a program to help people rise out of poverty.

Our Program

Our six-month career and community development program offers a cash stipend, covers career training/education costs, and offers one-on-one support. Our goal is to help participants, called 'Leaders,' get on a career path that will lead to earnings of $21/hr or more with advancement opportunities.

Purpose of Cultivate

To date, CrossPurpose has 10 cities across the United States utilizing our model to help neighbors in their communities exit poverty. This event is for cities who are interested in learning about the CrossPurpose model and adapting progamming to serve your own community. Guests who attend Cultivate and want to pursue this option will be invited to join the CrossPurpose National Network following this event.

CrossPurpose National Network

The CrossPurpose National Network was formalized in late 2022 as a a coalition of national nonprofits working to abolish poverty in neighborhoods across the United States. Hosted by CrossPurpose, a Denver-based workforce development nonprofit founded in 2012, the National Network is a nationwide collaborative of nonprofits addressing economic, relational, and spiritual poverty through career and community development. CrossPurpose provides free training, materials and support to members of the Network to benefit their respective, regional context.
