Factory 3

This two-hour class will have a different topic each month, each with a different focus. Each topic is a standalone class, so you can sign up for one, more than one, or all. The up-to-date schedule for the following topics can be found on the Factory 3 <a href="https://factory3.org/classes/creative-writing" title="https://factory3.org/classes/creative-writing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">website</a>:<ul><li>Creative Writing: Explore narrative-building techniques that will make your writing pop no matter what genre you’re working in.</li><li>Creative Writing: Story and Plot Structure: Learn the fundamentals of story structure, how to integrate plot with character development, and effective outlining strategies.</li><li>Creative Writing: Fiction from Real Life: Draw from your lived experience and pull inspiration from the world around you to create compelling fiction in this generative workshop.</li><li>Write with Pride: Write in community with LGBTQ+ creators and allies to explore queer writing and tell your story. This class is open to all people interested in queer and trans perspectives, craft, and liberation.</li></ul>

About the instructors:Kathryn Amato is a writer and teacher based in Southern Maine. They have an MFA in Writing Fiction for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, where their thesis on character agency in queer young adult novels received the 2022 Critical Thesis Award, and a Master of Arts in Teaching English Language Arts from The University of Pittsburgh. Kathryn was the 2019 Writer in Residence at Porter Square Books in Cambridge, MA and presented a panel "Breaking Up with Shame: Writing Romance for Young Adults" at AWP in 2023. They live with their wife, dog, two cats, and far too many plants. She has worked as a grape picker on a Swiss vineyard, a tour boat guide in Southwest Florida, a cataloger for an outdoor sculpture collection, a master canner, a fruit &amp; vegetable farmer, an undergraduate writing professor, and is currently the Director of Strategy and Storytelling at a Black Breast Cancer non-profit. In her short stories, she looks to explore inheritance, the uncanny, and liminal space. She’s particularly fond of sleeping outside, mint tea, and oversized house plants.
