Event description

Description

The beauty of diversity is that it can be expressed and celebrated through many forms. Over the past two years, the College of Charleston’s Office of Institutional Diversity (OID) has incorporated art into its efforts to engage campus in its work. Now, we’re taking it up a notch and inviting local artists to interpret various themes we will explore throughout the 2018-2019 Academic Year. Join us at the Albert Simons Center forthe Arts on November 2, as we welcome Marcus Amaker – Charleston’s first poet laureate – DanceFX and Art Pot. Each group will explore themes of race, gender and culture through poetry, dance and storytelling. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. Winners from OID’s first-ever Spoken Word Poetry Contest will be on-hand to perform as well. This event is free and open to the public.
