NC Dance Festival 23-24 season

Join the NC Dance Festival for one or more of our events across North Carolina during the 2023-24 season. From film screenings to multi-arts performances, to informal showings and dance classes, we share up-close and personal experiences with dance.

Four artists, working in dance, spoken word, visual arts, and music, will create a collaborative performance in just one day. Co-presented with TAB Arts Center, and featuring Anna Williams, James Daniels, Seema Kudur Viswanath, and Damien Mathis, and facilitated by Bre Forbes, the performance will be followed by a conversation with the audience. Doors open at 6:30, show begins at 7pm.As a starting point for the collaboration, the artists will explore the idea of “family” and “family traditions.” “We wanted to find a jumping off place that was open enough to allow for different interpretations, and would provide common ground, both for the collaborating artists, and for the audiences. I’m excited to see how this seed of an idea will develop as they work together, “ says Anne Morris, Festival Director. Held at The Artist Bloc event venue, the event invites audiences to mingle, grab a drink, and socialize with friends before the show. “In this intimate setting, audiences and performers will share the same space, as the performance happens throughout the venue. It’s meant to be an experience,” explains Sunny Gravely Foushee, director of TAB Arts Center. A conversation between artists and audience will follow the performance. The collaboration between Dance Project/NC Dance Festival and TAB Arts Center came about in an effort for both organizations to reach new artists, bring their audiences together, and offer a unique, up-close and personal arts experience to audiences. The project will also bring these artists into local schools, nurturing the next generation of artists and audiences. Support for this performance is provided in part by The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist's Performing Arts Medicine Clinic, The Artist Bloc, and other sponsors and donors.

What to expect The doors will open at 6:30pm, and audience members are invited to get a drink from the bar (non-alcoholic options available) and socialize with friends before the performance starts.There is some seating available for the performance, but audience members may also wish to stand and move around during the performance. Different parts of the performance will happen throughout the venue, and may happen in close proximity to audience members.There may be moments where the performers ask for responses from the audience; participation is voluntary but encouraged--you are an important part of the experience!After approximately 30-40 min of performance by the artists, the audience is invited to be part of a conversation with the artists. This is a casual time to ask questions about the process of creating the performance, collaborating with each other, and to share any other questions or responses that have arisen during the performance.While all ages are welcome to attend, the performance is most appropriate for ages 10+. The venue is an intimate one, so attendees must be comfortable watching in close proximity to the performers, and refraining from conversation and activity that may be distracting to performers or other attendees.
