In-person: Creating the Perfect Visual Sample

From cutting-edge documentaries that give depth to today’s headlines to smart, stunning films that push artistic and intellectual boundaries in all genres, Women Make Movies (WMM), a non-profit feminist social enterprise based in New York, is the world’s leading distributor of independent films by and about women. Our Production Assistance Program assists women directors with their productions from concept through completion with fiscal sponsorship, consultations and other technical assistance. We work with creative, ground-breaking films which win awards at festivals around the world. Films and filmmakers we have supported have been nominated for or won Academy® Awards in 12 of the past 13 years.REFUND POLICY |No refunds will be given for any workshop registrations.  If you are unable to make the workshop but notify us up to 24 hours prior to the actual workshop date, you may receive a credit for another workshop within one year. Workshops may be cancelled by WMM due to insufficient enrollment. All instructors are subject to change.

New York University Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute

Women Make Movies, the NYU Arthur Carter Journalism Institute and the Karen Schmeer Editing Fellowship are thrilled to present this workshop about what makes that winning, fundable work sample. Whether you’re pitching at a forum or submitting for funding through a foundation or a granting organization, you need to show visual material from your film – this can be in the form of a trailer, scene selects or a combination of both. Often you need various lengths of this ‘sample’. While the written proposal is essential, remember documentaries are meant to be seen, thus a strong visual sample can be the difference in getting the funding or not. We are proud to be joined by Robin Hessmann, award-winning filmmaker and one of the founders of the Karen Schmeer Editing Fellowship, along with editors Leigh Johnson, Rabab Haj Yahya and Chithra Jeyaram. An in-person workshop for filmmakers and editors alike, this is an evening not be missed!**This workshop is an in-person event at the NYU Arthur Carter Journalism Institute in New York. Unlike our webinars, our workshops are not recorded and made available to watch later.
