Creating a Worker-Owner Policy Platform (Eng & Span)

TheNYC Network of Worker Cooperativesis dedicated to sharing and cultivating the educational, financial and technical resources of its members and supporting the growth of worker cooperatives for social and economic justice. We offer assistance to existing and new worker cooperatives in all communities within the New York City metropolitan area, with a focus on the development of cooperatives within marginalized communities.  We host one-time workshops, as well as cohort programs.  Our workshops range from skill building, networking, support and advocacy.TheNYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), with support from the City and the New York City Council, helps theWorker Cooperative Business Development Initiative (WCBDI)offer innovative ways for New Yorkers to overcome economic and social inequality. Worker cooperatives are businesses that are owned and controlled by their workers (worker-owners). Worker cooperatives give New Yorkers the opportunity to co-own a business, creating sustainable and dignified jobs while developing community wealth - particularly for people who lack access to traditional business ownership.For general information about worker cooperatives or WCBDI, please visitnyc.gov/workercoops.

<H3><SPAN STYLE="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><SPAN STYLE="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;">Worker cooperatives are growing in NYC, New York State and beyond.  Policymakers are considering new policies to support worker cooperative development.  In addition, since 2014, NYC City Council has received a total of 5 million dollars to support worker cooperative development.  In this workshop, Worker-owners will  have an opportunity to provide input into what policies would support the growth of your businesses, and what kinds of support you hope to see from organizations receiving funds from City Council.  We will also learn about what policies have been proposed, and how we can support them getting passed.</SPAN></SPAN></H3>
