On May 27 at 6:00 PM, Bookends & Beginnings will host photographer and essayist Craig Mod to discuss his remarkable new book Things Become Other Things: A Walking Memoir, in conversation with Evanston-based writer and podcaster Dan Sinker.

In 2021, Craig Mod began a 300-mile-long walk along Japan's ancient pilgrimage routes. His memoir details this transformative journey, folding together the ancient and the new through prose, poetry, interviews, and stunning photography.

Craig Mod is a writer, photographer, and walker living in Tokyo, Japan. He is the author of four books, including Things Become Other Things and Kissa by Kissa. He is also the author of the newsletters Roden and Ridgeline and has contributed to The New York Times, The Atlantic, Wired, and other publications.

Dan Sinker is a writer, podcaster, and professional troublemaker who lives in Evanston, IL. He founded the influential Punk Planet magazine at 19, wrote the viral @MayorEmanuel Twitter account, contributes essays and features to Esquire, and is the producer of the award-winning podcast Rebel Spirit.
