In this workshop, guests will learn the significance of chochin in Japan’s history, and make your own lantern to bring home.


Hosted by Ryo Kojima, of Kojima Shoten, legendary lantern maker who’s been making them for centuries.

Meet the Maker


Kojima Shoten has been making paper lanterns by hand since at least 1801, and their work can be found all over Kyoto, adorning restaurants, theaters, and temples.
