Shibori tie-dye is a technique popularized in Japan 600 years ago. It’s been used by the shoguns as a means of creating beautiful patterns on fabrics and kimonos.
In this workshop, kimono dyer Shinya Takeda of ANDO Co. teaches guests how to use this tie-dye technique in order to create Japanese furoshiki, a cotton wrapping cloth.
Choose your own colors and use the ancient shibori tie-dyeing technique—often seen in intricate kimono patterns—to create a one-of-a-kind furoshiki .

ANDO Co., Ltd was founded in 1923 as a manufacturer of obi sashes and traditional cloths using Shibori (Tie-dyeing) technique. Nowadays, to meet the need of our traditional technique and products as spatial garnish, we offer Shibori to as an interior accessory to be used in a space of hotels, guesthouses or other facilities.
