Using a simple pattern and a variety of finishing techniques to construct a jacket with a classic couture look

Using a simple pattern and a variety of finishing techniques you will construct a jacket with a couture look. We will use several seam finishes such as Hong Kong seam, flat felt seam and French seams. You will also learn how easy it is to do a bound buttonhole. These techniques can be applied to any of your future projects for an eleganT couture look.

Simple jacket Pattern of your choice – unlined front, back, and sleeves

Butterick B6796 is the pattern I used. Other suggested patterns are –

Simplicity S3071, S9468 and S9271

McCalls M8433

Etsy – Luisa Patterns Alice Jacket, UPatterns Teddy Jacket

2 ½ yds main fabric – check your pattern for exact yardage

1 ½ yds focus fabric (depends on width)

1 yd fusible interfacing

Construction thread

Decorative thread for topstitching

Two 1” to 1 ½” buttons

24” long ruler

Rotary cutter and mat

Sewing tools –

Pins

Small sharp scissors

Dressmaker shears

Sewing machine in good working order

BRING ALL YOUR EXTRA FABRIC – WE WILL BE USING IT IN CLASS!!!

Prior to class pre-cut your front, back and facing pieces along with the interfacing for the facings. We will cut out sleeves and pockets in class. If you need help cutting out the pattern, let me know and we will make time to help with that.
