Nine months of preparation is the story of every expectant parent. Contemplating baby names, getting the nursery prepared, reading all the parenting literature you can find. Tiny clothes should be washed and ready. Ensure mom’s bags are packed and dad knows the quickest route to the hospital. Contractions. Hospital. More contractions. Push. Breath: some hours later, your bundle of joy has arrived.
But what if things don’t go as planned? What if complications arise…like an early delivery? What if there are medical problems? Where will you stay while your baby is in the NICU? What if you have to be out of work longer than expected. What do you do if your baby is premature, and expenses are more than you can handle? It’s a problem that’s not all that rare. During 2024 1 in 10 babies are born preterm (before 37 weeks). While some have relatively minor complications, others require extended stays in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
This is what happened fourteen years ago to Jennifer Call and her newborn son, Caiden. Her experience was the genesis of Caiden’s Hope Foundation.
Caiden’s Hope Foundation supports parents with a premature infant hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on a nationwide basis. We provide NICU families with free hotels, free gas cards, free gift cards, free parking and free air, bus or train travel allowing them to visit their newborn more often or remain near the hospital. Since our inception in 2010, Caiden’s Hope Foundation has steadily grown from a grass roots assistance effort to providing direct funding support to over 3,000 families in all 50 states and several countries.
