Join The Alliance Center on Thursday, March 26, for an evening dedicated to exploring the census and raising awareness about how undercounting can undermine the democratic and financial power of all Coloradans in the face of climate change.

The US Constitution mandates that the federal government must count the country’s population once every 10 years. The data collected by the census determines congress representation and funding for the most vital needs of each state, such as roads, schools and hospitals. Population undercounting can have profound and long-lasting effects on the citizens of the state. Furthermore, unfair and disproportionate representation of minorities has far-reaching implications for underrepresented groups, most of whom already suffer from systemic disenfranchisement.

At this event, you'll hear from experts about their experiences and challenges in regards to the census. We will review and deconstruct the census' language, explore available resources and point out cultural barriers posed on historically undercounted populations.

Discover how YOU, as individuals or an organization, can overcome the unintentional biases and be part of the effort to count everyone!

This event is part of our Climate+ Democracy program. Climate+ Democracy mobilizes agents of change to fight the climate crisis through civic engagement and tangible actions. Learn more about the program and upcoming events at thealliancecenter.org/climateplus.
