About this event

On Wednesday, September 28th, 2022, FDNY Chief Frank Leeb delivered the keynote address to kick off Firehouse Expo in Columbus, Ohio. Taking inspiration from his own leadership philosophy of training, teamwork, and mentorship, he shared the principles he learned during his more than 40 years in the fire

service. These principles have been the cornerstones of his leadership as he ascended the ranks of the FDNY. He also demonstrated how these lessons are transferable to any occupation or industry looking for self-improvement or organizational advancement. Building on the core tenets laid out in his speech, Leeb recounts stories of leadership, heroism, triumph, playing to win, and how the slimmest of margins between winning and losing can be directly credited to our preparation and winning mindset.

Frank Leeb is a Deputy Assistant Chief in the Fire Department of New York. During his more than 31-year career he has held several senior staff positions including Chief of the Fire Academy, Chief of Training, and Chief of Safety. He has also been a member of the East Farmingdale (LI) Fire Department since

1983. He has lectured nationally and internationally on motivation, preparedness, leadership, and strategy and tactics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration from SUNY Empire State and a master’s degree in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security. He has served as an advisory panel member for UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute’s (FSRI) “Study of Coordinated Attack in Acquired Structures” and is the chair for the First Responder Center for Excellence cancer advisory committee. Frank is also a principal on the NFPA Technical Committees 420, 1585, and 1710. He was a presenter at the 2022 and 2023 U.S. Fire Administrator Summit on Fire Prevention and Control and he is also the author of the best-selling book “Cornerstones of Leadership - On and Off The Fireground”.
