Join us on the fourth Saturday on every month for a hands-on workshop and volunteer day.
CORE is a branch of Tri-City Ecology Center dedicated to restoring the Roeding Test Orchard in California Nursery Historical Park in Niles, Fremont. We are located inside California Nursery Historical Park at this exact location. There are 2 free parking lots in the park. Restrooms and water fountains are on site.
Our Monthly Workshops will go over various topics on tree care or regenerative agriculture. Each month will focus on what tasks need to be done in that season and include practical advice for caring for your own fruit trees and garden.
Our monthly workshop days are also open for volunteers to come work in the orchard. Volunteering will include mulching, weeding, tree trimming, plantings, and more. Remember to wear close toed shoes and to bring a water bottle, hat and other necessities like sunscreen. Optional: Our volunteers often bring food and snacks to share with each other and have lunch at the orchard.
More about CORE: Our goal is to expand the orchard to over 300 fruit trees, of local, historical varieties, and add a native plant hedgerow perimeter. CORE plants varieties of apples, plums, pears, and more that were developed in California and are no longer sold commercially. Planting older varieties suited to our climate preserves genetic diversity within fruit trees and the unique taste of the fruit!
