Coptic-Bound Book

Coptic-Bound Book

Red Bird PressHouston, TX
Saturday, Apr 25 from 1 pm to 5 pm
Overview

In this guided workshop, guests will learn how to bind their own book using the Coptic binding technique and leave with their own journal!

The Coptic binding is an historical binding that hails from the European 8th century onward.

This binding pairs 8 signatures of folded sturdy paper with decorative cover papers over a hard cover for a strong and portable book. You can choose either watercolor or lighter-weight writing papers; I have a variety of cover papers from which you can choose, and coordinating waxed linen threads.

We stitch our books with attention to detail and careful planning. You will learn how to develop a rhythm of stitching so that you can carry on independently once it is made. You will go home with a beautiful book and directions so that you can create it again!

$25 Materials fee paid to instructor.
