About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 45 minutes

Scientists are living with unprecedented stress during this political moment in the U.S.

If you are feeling demoralized, burned out, or anxious, you are not alone.

Our resilience as individuals and as a scientific community depends on our ability to cope with the shocks, loss, and waves of changes that are occurring in our personal and professional lives right now.

You are invited to a group meeting to support your emotional resilience at this time. This 1 ¾ hour meeting, led by two licensed psychotherapists on Zoom, will include tools for finding emotional calm, education on common psychological responses to the present upheaval, and time to share your challenges and be supported by therapists and fellow scientists. Admission is by donation in two tiers, $18 standard and $5 hardship/grad students.

Please note that if you have the Eventbrite app on your phone, some phones will not allow registration for online Eventbrite meetings through the app; if you don't see a red Tickets or Register bar on the lower right of this digital flier, or receive a message stating "Online events cannot be accessed from the app", you may need to register using a computer, laptop or tablet instead OR by closing this tab, logging on to your account at eventbrite.com (or completing the quick steps to create a confidential eventbrite account) and then clicking once again on the link you received from us.

This is open to scientists who…

  • Have been terminated
  • Have been threatened with layoffs
  • Have had their grants cut
  • Are still employed yet feel upset by organizational changes and the maligning of their work by the current administration
  • Feel heightened anxiety or grief about ecological loss and the climate crisis in this moment

Scientists of any background or occupational position, including graduate students, are welcome.

This is an interactive meeting where you will have the opportunity to share and connect with others going through similar experiences (although sharing is optional). In order for everyone to get the most out of the meeting we ask for your presence for the whole meeting time and invite you to turn your camera on.

To respect your privacy and ensure your security, the meeting will be hosted on a HIPAA compliant version of Zoom used by healthcare professionals. The meeting will not be recorded. Zoom's AI listening feature will be turned off. All participants will be asked to respect each other's confidentiality.

About the Facilitators: Debra Borys, PhD & Joanna Calabrese, LMFT are psychotherapists with the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America. They have a special spot in their hearts for scientists and are contributing their time and expertise to provide this support meeting.
