Copernicus Ocean Hackathon
Transforming ocean data into value for the blue economy

The challenge
The EU's Copernicus programme keeps watch over the ocean, from sea temperature and currents to sea ice and algae blooms, and makes all of that data free and open. Now it's your turn to put it to work. Over one weekend, your team will turn Copernicus Marine data into a working prototype that tackles a real challenge in Iceland's marine environment or blue economy. Every solution must use at least one Copernicus Marine product. What you build with it is up to you.

Who should join
Coders, data scientists, business minds and ocean enthusiasts are all welcome, and university students are especially encouraged to take part. You'll work in teams of four, and the strongest teams mix technical skills with business and innovation thinking. If you already have a team, sign up together. If you're coming on your own, register as an individual and we'll match you with teammates.

What you'll get
Hands-on sessions will show you how to access and work with Copernicus Marine data. Companies will present case studies built around the very challenges you'll be solving. A vibe coding workshop will show you how to use AI tools to go from idea to prototype fast. You'll hear from investors about what makes an idea worth backing, and pitch training will get you ready to present your solution with confidence. Food and drinks are on us all weekend, and everyone who signs up will receive the full schedule ahead of the event.

What's at stake
The winning team takes home 100,000 ISK and the runner up 50,000 ISK. Winners also get mentoring hours and workspace from our partner companies, so the best ideas can keep growing after the weekend.

Part of Blue North, funded by the European Union under the Copernicus component of the EU's space programme.
