About this event

“Cal Move Out” brings together the resources of the university, the city, in an effort to decrease the environmental and social impacts of illegal dumping in near-campus neighborhoods at the end of the school year. Cooperative Reuse is an annual student-led furniture exchange program first started by Berkeley Student Cooperative in 2018. Since then, we have partnered with the City of Berkeley, on-campus organizations, and businesses including SF Goodwill and Gig Car Share to expand the program and accept more items than ever before.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone donate?

Anyone can come to pick up free items, and anyone can donate small items acceptable to Goodwill. For large furniture, due to our limited capacity to accept donations, we can only accept items from University affiliates with a Cal ID.

How long are you open for?

We will be open for pick-ups and donations from May 17th to May 27th 10am to 5pm

What if I don’t have access to a vehicle to transport furniture?

We are offering FREE furniture pick-up services on Fridays and Saturdays. Please fill out the form on calmoveout.com to apply! For smaller items, we recommend Gig Car Share; from 5/16–5/28, new members can sign up with code COOPREUSE24 for a FREE hour of driving!

Is the program really free?

YES! Cooperative Reuse is entirely free to participate, though donations are appreciated. Those seeking pick-up services from Chipman Relocation & Logistics must submit a $20 refundable deposit in order to secure their service.

Do you accept mattresses? In what condition?

We can accept mattresses and box springs in any condition! We do NOT accept toppers, foam pads, or bedding!

How can I dispose of something you are unable to accept?

See calmoveout.com/resources !

Will there be ____ available at this time slot?

We don't have a way of knowing how many donations we will have beforehand! There is a chance that items may all get taken and there's a chance there could be tons of stuff (especially for the earlier timeslots) We will try to post updates on our Instagram story to the best of our ability!

I'm not in Berkeley right now! Are you doing this later or are there other resources for me?

Cooperative Reuse only runs in may, but Goodwill & Urban Ore have super affordable second-hand items! Also check out @curb.alert.berkeley on instagram and some of the resources listed on calmoveout.com/resources for more info & resources regarding move out!
