About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

It’s Father’s Day weekend, and what better time to reflect and write about Fathers, Fathering, and Father-ship – the stern, the silly, the surprising, the silent, and the sage. Though a complicated role and relationship, writing can help us gain new insight, work through grief, and celebrate, dig, measure, challenge, and accept.

Through prompts and play, memory and invention, teaching artist Kelly Cass Falzone will guide students to explore both what they hold dear and what might be hidden in the dark. All types of writing invited – poetry, prose, script, lyrics, fiction, and creative non-fiction – and sharing and feedback are offered and encouraged at each student’s comfort level.

This two-session workshop begins Friday evening, June 14, from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm, and continues on Saturday, June 15 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Students are expected to attend the ENTIRE workshop on both days.

Fatherhood NOT a prerequisite. All genders and all levels of writers welcome. Friday night’s session will set the stage, allow us to meet one another, and start writing; Saturday provides time for deeper writing and reflection, and some opportunity and advice for revision and expansion. Participants will leave with lots of newly generated fodder, and a few new writerly friends!

Participants should bring a journal or notebook, pen, water bottle, and a sack lunch and snacks for Saturday.
