Cooking Up Compost

Would you like to have a backyard compost but don't know how? 
In this workshop you will learn how to recycle your kitchen scraps and garden waste into nutrient rich compost that will build your soil and feed your plants. 
Emily Hinds, a VET Lecturer in Horticulture will cover the basics of setting up, managing and maintaining a successful compost. 
Topics will include:

choosing the right compost set-up for your household size and situation
</LI>
<LI>
what materials you can and can't compost
</LI>
<LI>
building up your compost layers
</LI>
<LI>
the role of water, oxygen and temperature in creating ideal composting conditions
</LI>
<LI>
how to activate your compost and increase the nutrient value
</LI>
<LI>
trouble shooting, what to do if your compost goes wrong.
</LI>
</UL>
This workshop will combine theory with hands-on, practical experience in building a compost heap. There will be plenty of opportunity to share knowledge and ask questions. All welcome.

Payment will be collected on the day.
Wear a hat and flat, enclosed shoes. Bring drinking water and sunscreen. 
We also invite participants to bring along a bucket of organic materials to help build the compost pile.
