Do I have to pay in advance, and what if I have to cancel?

Accepted Answer

The full amount is due at booking. If you cancel 30 days prior to the start of the getaway, you'll get a 100% refund less processing fees. But we get it, life is complex and if something comes up and you have to cancel within 30 days, if we can book your space, you'll also get a refund.

Question 2

I don’t know how to cook? Or how to write?

Accepted Answer

No problem! Kathleen is very experienced managing classes with students of varying skill levels. This is a great way to kickstart becoming fearless in your kitchen. Are you a seasoned cook? Kathleen will make sure you’re challenged, too. The writing sessions are intended as an aid for self-discovery

I have dietary restrictions. Can you accommodate them?

Accepted Answer

We will do our best to accommodate any dietary restrictions, such as gluten, dairy or vegetarian. However, this is probably not the best option for those following a vegan diet.

Question 4

What airport do I fly into?

Accepted Answer

Anna Maria Island is located on the west coast of Florida. We are served by Sarasota-Bradenton Airport (SRQ) and Tampa International Airport (TPA). We recommend taking a ride share to the island from either airport as you will not need a car once you’re here.

Question 5

Will I need a car?

Accepted Answer

No, a car is not necessary. We are next to one of the stops for the island’s free trolley, our crew can do some drop-offs and pick-ups and we will have bikes on hand for your use, as well.

Question 6

How much will it be to Uber/Lyft there?

Accepted Answer

SRQ is about 35 to 40 minutes away, and Tampa is roughly an hour, so a car share from SRQ will run between $35 to $60, and one from Tampa ranges $60 to $80. We will do our best to help you coordinate with other guests to share rides.

Can we just book your house as a vacation rental?

Accepted Answer

Is there anything specific I should pack?

Accepted Answer

es, you’ll need to pack some comfortable closed-toe shoes to wear during the cooking classes. Also good to pack: sleepwear you’ll be happy others to see you in, a bathing suit or shorts and top for the pool, sunblock, a sun hat, shorts or leggings, comfortable shirts, sandals, a sundress or two.

Do I have to do yoga, or is that optional?

Accepted Answer

It’s totally optional. You can walk the beach instead, go for a morning bike ride or just sleep in. If you plan to do yoga, bring comfy clothes for that. We will provide yoga mats, so you don’t need to bring one.

These dates don’t work for me. Are more getaways planned?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and if you’d like, you can put your name on a list for priority notice to sign up.

Question 11

My book club / family wants to book all the spaces to have a private cooking and writing getaway.

Accepted Answer

Reach out via email, and let’s see if we can work out mutually agreeable dates.

Question 12

I live nearby, so I don’t need to stay at the house. Is there a discount?

Accepted Answer

The accommodation is 100% complimentary, so there's not a discount. So maybe do a staycation?

Question 13

I want to do a one-day cooking class. Also, any chance to take an online class?

Accepted Answer

Yes, I will be offering limited one-day cooking classes in both Florida and Seattle starting in late 2023, and will begin online classes around the same time. Watch my newsletter or asked to be signed up for priority notice.

Question 14

I can come for four nights, but not six, or I can just do two. Is there any flexibility?

Accepted Answer

We give preference to guests who can stay the full length of the program as it’s less disruptive for the others. However, we can put your name on a waiting list and if there are extra spaces or a cancellation, we can work with your schedule.

Question 15

Should I get travel insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this is strongly recommended. In the extremely unlikely case we need to cancel or reschedule, we won't be responsible for refunding any travel bookings.

Question 16

Will I have a private bathroom?

Accepted Answer

The house has 3.5 baths, so there will be some sharing involved. There is a warm water outdoor shower (highly recommended) in addition to the two in the house.
