The COOK Alliance led the charge to pass the country’s first law allowing people to sell cooked meals from their homes, creating an innovative form of culinary entrepreneurship accessible to all, and particularly empowering for homemakers, caretakers, women, people of color, low-income individuals, and immigrants. Based in California, our programs support the expansion of laws in more states, the success of home-cooking entrepreneurs in their businesses, the ties between these entrepreneurs and their communities, and the role of this movement in creating a stronger food system. We’ve developed an ABCD strategic model: we work to A - Advance Advocacy, B - Build Business, C - Cultivate Community and D - Develop Data around the home cooking movement. We are the only nonprofit organization in the state that has focused exclusively on developing education, technical assistance, and resources to support MEHKOs (Micro-Enterprise Home Kitchen Operations).
