Event description

Description

BE AT THE TABLE:

For our Fall 2018 program, we will be hosting a three-part series taking a deeper look into the history and psychology of partisanship and political thought in America. We will be gathering researchers, activists and community members as we ask the less comfortable questions of ourselves : How exactly did we get here? How do we move forward?

Join us on the Nopalito patio for our second conversation of the series as we turn our attention to examining American thought patterns and how we create, relate and defend our personal politics. We will discuss the pathology of changing public opinion on the trustworthiness of information.

Piggybacking off of our first conversation on self-selecting geographic political bias, we'll use this night to investigate why no matter where Americans live, or what party they belong to, skepticism, conspiracy theories, and misinformation are all on the rise.

What are the deeper influences of such widespread mistrust? How do we investigate and befriend our own biases and irrationality without fear? What happens when reason and the obvious become politicized?

Your ticket will include margaritas, wine, and a seat at the table for conversation over a four-course, family style dinner.

100% of ticket sales will be donated to support Youth Speaks -

Through poetry, spoken word, youth development and civic engagement, Youth Speaks aims to deconstruct dominant narratives in hopes of achieving a more inclusive, and active, culture. Believing that young people have the tools to take control of their lives through language, Youth Speaks encourages youth to express themselves using their own vernacular.

Nopa and Nopalito restaurants, servers and chefs will be donating 100% of their food, beverage, time and service in order to support the conversation and the important work of Youth Speaks.

Ticket prices have intentionally been set well below cost in order to ensure more needed and diverse voices can be at the table. If you are able, and so inclined, please consider making an additonal donation to sponsor a ticket and support civics education through Youth Speaks.

Please Note - No one will be turned away from the conversation for lack of funds. Please contact caitlin@nopasf.com in advance for more information.
