About this event

In this 2-1/2-hour workshop you will learn the basics of marbling on paper – how to prepare marbling colors, the marbling bath, and the surfaces to be marbled. You will have your own marbling vat where you can play with color and design. We will start with the basic stone pattern and add combing patterns as we go. You will leave with several sheets of your own marbled paper as well as a canvas pouch and access to instructions so you can marble at home!

About the instructor: Claire Reynes is an artist and educator from Chicago who currently lives and works in Portland. She received her BFA in Art Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2013. During a semester in the University of Georgia Studies Abroad program in Cortona, Italy, she was introduced to hand paper making, book arts, and paper marbling. Claire’s work involves handmade paper with natural fibers, sewing, embroidery, drawing, and marbling, and considers the living body and spirit of human and non-human entities. She facilitates workshops and participates in pop-up markets in Maine as Tempered East, her small-batch, hand-marbled label.
