Event description

Description

Protecting and stewarding Colorado's open lands for future generations involves big-picture challenges that no one organization can solve alone. The Conservation Futures Project is a time-bound initiative united around a common purpose:
  • To envision and launch a new, statewide coalition that has the vision, capacity, and structure to most effectively guide and support the land conservation community as it evolves to meet current and future challenges.
  • To explore and develop relevant tools for navigating our common path forward – such as a stewardship endowment calculator, a modernized valuation model for conservation easements, and collaborative models to support local land trusts.

On May 9 from 3 to 6 p.m., land conservation leaders from across Colorado will convene for a half-day Conservation Futures Project summit in Breckenridge. Summit participants will:

  • Review research on a range of statewide organizations whose models are considered to be national exemplars in serving their constituents and advancing common conservation goals
  • Discuss statewide constituent feedback and trends from the April 2018 Conservation Futures Project survey
  • Participate in a core purpose exercise to help set the course for a redesigned statewide land conservation coalition
  • Provide critical guidance to the Conservation Futures Project process as it moves forward

Because we will be starting to make decisions about the future direction of our statewide coalition at this summit, executive directors and board members of each Colorado land trust are strongly encouraged to attend, as are representatives from open space groups and professional members of land tusts. If your land trust's ED is unavailable to attend, please send a board member and an alternate staff member.

To facilitate attendance and encourage a broad range of voices at the CFP Summit:

  • The Conservation Futures Project will provide a travel stipend of up to $350 per organization for each Colorado land trust that is NOT represented on the CFP Steering Committee. Checks will be mailed to each attending land trust following the May 9 summit.
  • We have received a generous offer from Continental Divide Land Trust to provide complimentary lodging for a limited number of summit attendees. For more information, contact Tony Caligiuri at tcaligiuri@coloradoopenlands.org.
  • If you plan to stay in Breckenridge May 9-11 to attend the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Partners in the Outdoors conference, your organization may be eligible for a Partners Grant of between $1,000 and $5,000. More information is here, or contact Dan Zimmerer at (303) 291-7258 or daniel.zimmerer@state.co.us. CPW conference registration is NOT required to attend the Conservation Futures Project Summit.
