Join Our Conscientious Objection Workshop
Due to new legislation, on December 18, anyone in the US aged 18-26 assigned male at birth will automatically be registered for the Selective Service. If this applies to you, it means you could be drafted into military service and forced to commit acts of violence.
At this free, no-pressure workshop, you can expect to learn:
- What it means to be a conscientious objector
- How to discern your own beliefs about war and killing
- The history of conscientious objection
- How to document a claim
- How to defend your beliefs at a draft board interview
- How your local Quaker congregation can serve as an ally, regardless of your religious affiliation
All materials and lunch are included.
The leader of this workshop is Wayne Finegar, Executive Director of Quaker House, a nonprofit organization in Fayetteville, NC that protects the rights of military personnel and helps people make educated choices about military service. You can learn more at QuakerHouse.org.
