Presentation Topic: Research at the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the Department of Defense – Opportunities for Growth and Collaboration

LTC Julie A Rizzo, MD is a trauma/burn surgeon and surgical critical care intensivist at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), where she also serves as the trauma research director. She has over 60 peer-reviewed publications and strong experience with Department of Defense funded programmatic research. She was previously the Extracorporeal Life Support scientific lead at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research where she oversaw a large translational research program. She has 4 combat deployments with both conventional and special operations. LTC Rizzo is an associate professor with the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Her hobbies include her dog, long-range precision shooting, cooking, and relaxing in her country home.
