Congregation X's (CX) roots can be traced back to a chance meeting and conversation at an open mic between guitarist, Nevin Brown, and Alexandria Brocato after hearing her sing one night. In the beginning, the idea was simply about collaborating on songs to play at future open mics. It gradually morphed into exploring the idea of writing together and performing original songs instead.

Following their participation in the 2023 RPM challenge, the band expanded to five, gaining the advantages of additional influences and experiences CX has been fortunate enough to play original music in filled rooms at some iconic locations in NH including:

* The Stone Church Music Club - Newmarket NH
* Rockingham Ballroom - Newmarket NH
* Auspicious Brew - Dover NH
* Earth Eagle North - Somersworth NH
* Milk Street Studio - Dover NH

A Listening Room Experience

Hermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate, up-close, and personal experience with the performing artists. We ask our audience please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience, which is not otherwise possible in larger, noisier environments.

Doors open at 5:30 pm for a complimentary wine tasting. The Loft Doors open at 6:00. We encourage you to arrive early for our wine tasting and enjoy food and wine before the show. The kitchen will close at 7:00 pm. When the featured artists takes the stage we will ask that the audience remain quiet during the performance. After the show, we invite you to interact with the artists and purchase any music or merchandise offerings if available.

Frequently asked questions

What is a "Listening Room?

A listening room is an intimate performance space designed for focused appreciation of live music or spoken word. With excellent acoustics and minimal distractions, it fosters respect for artists and a close connection with the audience, creating an immersive and personal experience.

Why does the dinner service end at 7:00?

We encourage guests joining us for dinner to arrive by 6:00 PM, allowing ample time to enjoy food and drinks, settle in, and fully enjoy the performance when it begins. This also helps minimize any disruption from dinner service during the show.

How do I participate in the wine tasting?

We invite all ticket holders for the evening performance to enjoy a limited wine tasting at the Hermit Woods Tasting Bar from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. Please note that the tasting concludes promptly at 6:00 PM, so be sure to arrive on time to take advantage of this experience.

Where do I park?

Due to our downtown location, Hermit Woods does not have onsite parking. However, ample parking is typically available on Main St., including a public lot across the street, accessible from High St. or Water St.

If I have tickets for the show, do I still need dinner reservations?

Your ticket reserves your seat from the moment doors open at 6:00 PM until the end of the night. Your table will be ready and waiting for you upon arrival.

Will there be other people seated at my table?

Due to our limited seating of just 60, we aim to maximize capacity. If a party of two reserves seats at a four-top table, another couple may reserve the remaining seats. Our seating includes 6 four-tops, 6 two-tops, and 22 bar seats.

How long is the performance?

Performances typically run 1 hour 15 minutes to 1.5 hours. If the artist and audience are especially engaged, shows may run longer. Most performances conclude before 9:00 PM.

Do you serve drinks other than wine?

Yes, we offer wines, meads, and ciders crafted by Hermit Woods Winery, along with locally brewed beer and a selection of handcrafted cocktails.

Is the Loft wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, the Loft is not wheelchair accessible. While the main floor of the winery is wheelchair-friendly, the Loft is located up one flight of stairs. If you're able, we’re happy to assist you with the stairs.

What happens if I am not able to attend the show, can I get a refund?

Full refunds are available up to seven days before the show. If you need to cancel after that, please contact the venue directly. We’ll gladly work with you to apply your tickets toward a future show.

Can tickets be purchased at the door?

Yes, tickets for all shows at Hermit Woods can be purchased in advance or, subject to availability, on the day of the show at our front register.

Is it important to purchase my tickets in advance?

Many of our shows sell out, so purchasing your ticket early increases your chances of securing a seat. While every seat offers a great view, buying early gives you the best opportunity to reserve your favorite table or preferred seating.

Is dinner included in the ticket price?

No. Your ticket is only for your table reservation and the performance. Drinks and dinner are sold separately.

Why are we not allowed to talk during the show?

In a listening room, the focus is on creating an intimate experience where the audience can fully appreciate the performance. Talking during the show distracts both the artist and other guests. Maintaining a quiet atmosphere ensures everyone can enjoy the music to its fullest.

If I have a party larger than four can arrangements be made to sit together?

For parties larger than four, please contact the venue prior to purchasing your tickets. We will do our best to arrange seating together whenever possible. Call us at 603.253.7968.
