The Texas African American Museum proudly presents Congo Square 2026, a special evening that brings together two unique community traditions into one powerful cultural gathering.On Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM, the community will assemble at the Veretta and Jesse E. Rider Fine and Performing Arts Centre (309 MLK Blvd, Tyler, Texas) for a program that blends recognition, storytelling, and celebration.Under the banner of Congo Square 2026, the evening will feature two signature segments:East Texas Postmaster Day.
This portion of the evening honors the dedication and public service of Postmasters and postal professionals throughout East Texas. The program will recognize individuals whose work has helped connect communities, deliver opportunity, and maintain one of America’s most trusted institutions.Netflix Didn’t Call You, But We Did!
Community Roast Following the formal recognition, the evening shifts into a lively and entertaining Community Roast, where local personalities, leaders, and storytellers take the stage to celebrate East Texas humor, history, and personality.This segment is designed to bring laughter, storytelling, and community spirit together in a friendly roast-style format that celebrates the people who help shape Tyler and the surrounding region.Why “Congo Square”
The title Congo Square reflects a historic tradition of gathering, culture, music, and storytelling within African American communities. Just as historic gathering spaces once brought people together to celebrate heritage and community life, Congo Square 2026 creates a modern space for recognition, fellowship, humor, and cultural expression.
