Overview

Help participate in the second annual International Plastic Pellet Count!

Join Tualatin Riverkeepers and Willamette Riverkeeper at the confluence of our two great rivers as we participate in the second annual International Plastic Pellet Count! Plastic pellets, also known as nurdles, are the raw material used to make many familiar plastic products like water bottles, grocery bags, drinking straws, and food containers. During manufacturing and transport, they are frequently spilled, leaked, or dumped into the environment, especially in our waterways. We will be submitting data collected by event volunteers to NurdlePatrol.org. This information will be downloaded by organizations to help advocate for policy that prevents these plastics from entering our waterways.

The count itself can take as little as 10 minutes! Before you head out to join us, watch this quick training video to get a good idea of what we will be doing. As a volunteer, you can focus on what to look for and where—TRK and WRK staff will handle data entry. We will be out counting rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather. We will be combing the shoreline, so wearing tall rubber boots or water shoes is recommended.

Park here and meet at the non motorized boat launch.
