Workshop :
Computer Mouse Teardown with Ed Bear on April 30th at 5pm
ADNS2620, B6.129P2-Apoetm1Unc/J, HT82M99E, C57BL/6J, SPCP168A, hu-CD34
ADNS2620, HT82M99E, and SPCP168A are given family names for integrated circuits commonly found inside optical mice. The remaining barely legible strings, B6.129P2-Apoetm1Unc/J, C57BL/6J, and hu-CD34 are the given names for families of living, breathing, singing (mostly) mouse research models. Both silicon and labrat are worlds thinly sliced by taxonomists into defensively technical, enclosed, and obscure human-mouse interfaces. While dissecting and reverse engineering an optical computer mouse from the safety of your own space, we will explore the conceptual and material connections between single-use circuits, sacred geometry, single-use mammals, haruspicy, mushroom and mollusk foraging, despeciation, the workshop’s video-chat servers, and multispecies kinship.
This workshop requires that you have a small eyeglass screwdriver, a hammer, brick, or similar cudgel and a computer mouse that may never live again. Protective eyewear encouraged. Purchase a general admission ticket and select the add-on “TEARDOWN” to secure your spot!
