Digital Scholarship SeriesThis workshop introduces three computational text analysis methods—topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and the use of LIWC-22 (Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count)—along with an introduction to web scraping for building custom text datasets.You’ll learn how researchers and practitioners use these tools to analyze patterns across corpora, from interviews and social media texts to archival documents.Whether you’re looking to enhance your qualitative research with computational techniques or gain skills that translate into research, policy, or industry roles, this session will help you get started.Presented by Jing Han, PhD
Jing Han is the Digital Scholarship Librarian at the University of California, Riverside. She leads initiatives in digital scholarship and scholarly communication, including the Digital Scholarship Certificate, the Open Research and Creative Activities Forum, The Reference Desk podcast, and expanded Open Access Week programming. She serves as UCR’s eScholarship (institutional repository) Liaison with the California Digital Library.
Jing currently serves as Divisional Chair of the Research &amp; Professional Development Committee for the Librarians Association of the University of California (LAUC), Treasurer of California Academic &amp; Research Libraries (CARL), and a member of the CARL Conference Planning Committee. She is also a member of the UC Scholarly Communication and Digital Humanities Common Knowledge Groups and the Code4Lib Community Support Squad (CSS). She holds a PhD in Media and Communication with a research focus on computational text analysis from Temple University.All UCR community members are welcome to attend.
