Composting 101

Join co-hosts Carmen & Sarah to learn the ins and outs of composting and how to turn food scraps into healthy soil!

Beginning with a short presentation, participants will learn why composting matters, what’s happening inside a compost pile, and a variety of composting methods including traditional piles, tumblers, bokashi, and worm bins.

Next participants will get hands-on with real compost samples and learn how to balance “greens” and “browns” to create healthy compost as well as how to identify unfinished, finished, and anaerobic compost. Finally participants will take an optional tour of the Seeds of Solidarity greenhouse and learn about plans for their future composting system.

Expect to leave with a better understanding of the composting process, the confidence to start (or improve) your own system at home, and a copy of the presentation.

What to Wear / Safety Notes: Wear closed toed shoes.

Skill Level: Beginner & Intermediate

Important Workshop Details:

• Attendees must be 18+
• Attendees should arrive 15 minutes early to check in.
• Refunds are only allowed until 72 hours before the event.
• Bathrooms and refillable water stations are available on site. We have a fridge on site to store any meals or snacks, participants are able to step away to eat or drink at any time.
• If a class does not reach a sustainable capacity, the instructor may cancel up to 48 hours before the event. In that case, all attendees will receive a full refund.

Equitable Access We believe everyone deserves access to hands-on learning opportunities, regardless of income. That's why each workshop includes a limited number of Equitable Access seats.

• Each participant may claim an Equitable Access seat once per quarter (every three months).
• These spots are first-come, first-served and limited by class size.
• If you've already used an equitable seat this quarter, we ask that you register at full price so others can benefit.
