About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Inspired to compost, but not sure where to start? Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn how our farm uses compost to build healthy soil that produces flavorful, nutrient-dense food.. and how you can, too!

During this workshop, our Farm Fertility Team will guide you to a few spots around the farm for an in-depth look at and information about all the ways ALF composts:

  • Gain a big-picture view of how ALF approaches farming within an integrated ecosystem, focuses on healthy soil, and generates fertility from within.
  • Learn how to build healthy soil, the role of worms & microbes, and the parallels between soil health and gut health
  • Stop by the lemon orchard to check out our hot compost piles & windrows. You’ll learn about the natural process of composting and how exactly food scraps transform into fertile, nutrient-rich soil when given the proper, harmonious conditions.
  • Dig into our 40 foot worm composting bin and compost tea brewing tanks. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of our farm’s vermicompost program, and how you can utilize worms to break down food scraps on a small scale at home.
  • Gain hands-on experience building a backyard compost pile

Today, Apricot Lane Farms is a 234 acre working farm is integrated within a reawakened ecosystem. We regeneratively grow more than 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables; and raise sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, goats and guardian dogs with reverence… while farming in harmony (or a comfortable level of disharmony) within a dynamic ecosystem. Our farm is certified Biodynamic and Organic.
