Who is Complex Theory?
The stage name of singer, songwriter, and producer Jarvis Charles, Complex Theory crafts melodic, emotionally resonant hip-hop rooted in rich storytelling, poetic clarity, and the vinyl culture he loves. With acclaimed albums like Perspectives (2019), One Day You'll Understand (2020), and the breakthrough Technique (2021), his music bridges the warmth of vintage vinyl with modern soul and hip-hop sensibilities.

Inspired by legends like Nujabes and J Dilla, his sound is infused with the spirit of Chicago and the experiences of an artist who’s lived through struggle and transformation. From street cyphers to studio mastery, Jarvis brings a sense of depth, care, and brilliance to everything he creates.

What is Stomping Grounds Open Stage?
Stomping Grounds is a free monthly open mic designed to uplift young and emerging creatives in Chicago through performance, expression, and connection. Hosted by the Stomping Grounds Literary Arts Initiative with support from Kuumba Lynx and Elephant Rebellion, Open Stage is a place where words matter, and the mic is open for voices ready to be heard.
