Community Wildfire Mitigation Training

The mission of the RCDSMM is to promote land stewardship and resource conservation through ecological research, conservation planning and design, habitat restoration and environmental education, while adhering to the highest standards of transparency and accountability as a public agency.The District encompasses the Santa Monica Mountains from Point Mugu to Topanga State Park and includes the Simi Hills, Santa Catalina Island, Pierce College, Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Area and Chatsworth Reservoir.

Learn how to protect your home and community from wildfires at our in-person training event on February 9th and 10th, 2024!

Come join us for our Community Wildfire Mitigation Training event on October 11th and 12th!During this event attendees will learn about wildfire regimes and the importance of home hardening and defensible space practices on a community-wide scale. After two lecture portions are completed, attendees will get the chance to do an in-person structure analysis and receive a certificate of completion.Both lecture portions of the event will take place at the RCDSMM office located at 4505 Las Virgenes Rd. Suite 215 Calabasas, CA 91302 with a hybrid zoom option available to those who need it (in-person is highly encouraged). There is plenty of parking in the office lot. Both stairs and an elevator are available to access our suite on the upper floor. The structure analysis portion will take place at a home a couple miles from the office; directions to this location and carpool options will be provided day of. Please reach out to us with any accessibility needs or concerns!ScheduleFriday 11th: In office lecture only from 5:00pm-7:00pm.Saturday 12th: In office lecture from 9:00am-12:00pm followed by the in person structure analysis that will take place from 1:00pm-3:00pm.Saturday we will break for lunch from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
